Terminal = arrival and departure control
in vicinity of a
major airport.
Only Halifax and Greenwood have these in our region. VOR = vertical omnirange - nav beacon indicating direction ILS = instrument landing systemterminal = arrival and departure control vicinity of airport. Often referred to as "Arrival" or "Departure" depending on what the aircraft is doing. Traffic = aircraft announces intentions to others. No controller. May or may not be a ground station that can give non controlling info.Unicom = Usually there is a private ground station that may give advice or info but not control of aircraft. Aircraft may be required to announce intentions on this freq. Aircraft doing so will use the term "Traffic". In some areas the ATF frequency is referred to as a unicom. For example the ramp advisory frequency at Halifax (122.125) has no controlling or advising ground station as it is merely a party line of aircraft sorting things out for themselves, but it is sometimes referred to as "the ramp unicom". MF (Mandatory freq) = official term for "traffic" where there is a ground stationATF (Airfield Traffic Freq) = official term for "traffic" where no grnd station. Ramp Advisory Frequency: A frequency used by pilots to coordinate movements on the ramp. These are found only at Halifax and Moncton in this region. Similar to an ATF as there is no controller, but may not be absolutely mandatory to announce intentions. More like use it if it useful.
