Nova Scotia Fire Frequency List
This list has been compiled with the input of many fellow scanning enthusiasts.  It may be freely downloaded and used but should not be re-published without acknowledgement

  • Listeners should also monitor the provincial fire grid frequency for the particular area of interest as well as TMR EO talk groups.  Practically all non-HRM depts will have the local grid frequency available and some use this for pages and/or operations.  Many depts are licenced to use more than one fire grid frequency.  Fire grid frequencies are commonly used for communication with paging centers, but this is not always the case.
  • TMR EO talk groups are used by some departments for communications with paging centres.   Some departments may have their own "private" talk group.   Other than HRFES and HRM-dispatched departments, it is thought that no departments use the TMR for actual fire operations.
  • Fire grid frequencies may be in use as private frequencies in a different part of the province.  For example 151.535 is in use by CBRM Glace Bay but is a fire grid frequency in the Sherbrooke and Shelburne areas.  Similarly for the grid input frequencies.
  • Depts may use multiple frequencies for dispatch, on-scene operations, or 2-way communications with their dispatch service.   In some areas such as East Hants additional backup frequencies are also available.  Some depts have more than  one private frequency licenced and listed in TAFL but do not use them all  or perhaps do not use any - preferring to use the grid.  
  • In the list where multiple frequencies are shown for a department, the differing uses are indicated if known and clarification is of course sought from anyone who has actually heard the department in operations.
  • PAGE TEST TIMES:  This is a new entry as of May 1.  These will be approximate, more or less the hour plus X minutes, so that 6 can mean anything from around 6 to around 6:45.  Obviously Valley Dispatch cannot test everyone at the same time if they are done individually but there may be a definite sequence and therefore more exact times possible.   Note that inn some areas the dispatch centre DOES test several simultaneously.   This for ecample is the case for Hants East on 153.77 and on 155.835.  Please inform me of any times you have.
