Pictou County does not have an integrated communications system of a few shared frequencies such as is found in Colchester and East Hants, but they do have much commonality in that there are only two dispatch providers.   In addition there are the usual Mutual Aid agreements with the possibility of using 153.83 MHz simplex, as well as the local IMRS repeater at McLellan's Mountain as noted below.    Like other fire departments there is the possibility of using the NS Trunked  Mobile Radio System, but it is thought that no Pictou area department has obtained its own talk group.    It is likely that some or all of the departments possess seeded TMR radios and that selected personnel are able to use the MFR, MA, EO and VFD administrative talk groups.   The dispatch providers are known to monitor EO-C1 for liaison purposes.

It is not individually known how the dispatch providers connect to the transmitters indicated here.   It may be that for departments located close to the dispatch provider's location there woild be direct radio input the to specific repeaters, and perhaps two-way communications.   More remote locations are likely paged via DAPT (telephone dial-up), and in these cases it would be paging only with no two-way communications, unless done via the IMRS site.

NS Integrated Mobile Radio Service (“The Grid”):   This area is served by an IMRS site at McLellan's (McLellan) Mountain.    The repeater dedicated to the fire service has an output frequency of 152.210 MHz, with an input of 154.220 MHz and a tone in and out of 82.5 Hz.    This site also has a seldom-used repeater on 143.565 MHz (input 148.555) tone in 94.8 Hz.    The far southeastern part of the county may also be served by the Cochrane Hill (Melrose) fire repeater on 151.535 MHz (input 154.010) tone 94.8.
