It should be expected that all of these departments are also
capable of operating on the provincial VHF Mutual Aid frequency of 153.83
MHz. They are all likely to be able
to access the provincial VHF fire grid through one or more repeaters. The repeater site serving most of Pictou
County is McLellan’s Mountain, transmitting on 152.21 MHz; however some
departments may use other sites. As
seen on the chart above some departments apparently use MacLellan’s Mtn for
everyday operations and/or paging. See
the separate page on the NS Fire Grid.
Most departments in Nova Scotia also have limited capability
to access the provincial 800 MHz trunk (TMR).
At present this is used on occasion for administrative liaison, and for
joint operations with or through EHS and DNR.
No department in Pictou County is presently using 800 MHz for day to day
operations.
