October 2021: NOTE THAT THIS PAGE IS NOW COMPLETELY HISTORICAL IN NATURE AS THIS
RADIO SYSTEM NO LONGER EXISTS. THERE SHOULD BE NO ISSUES OF
CONFIDENTIALITY.
The following chart is taken from what is thought to be an official list current in the early 2000's. It is now likely out of date as new repeaters have come on line (mostly through takeover of municipal departments) and existing ones have had changes made. I have only made one change from the original list and that is to change the Melrose repeater frequency from 155.88 to 155.415 MHz.
It is likely that the channel numbers are not commonly used, as the display is thought to be of the repeater name (or other usage), so that a user would simply scroll through the channels until the correct one shows.
It is interesting to note that the the channels are arranged by area, so that in any one area the various repeaters are only a a channel number or two apart. This appears to start in the Northeast and go around the province in a sequence, but with the Nova Scotia RCMP and the US Border Patrol and other liaison channels in the middle.
In regard to the Nova Scotia RCMP it is unknown if these frequencies remain in the NB RCMP radios as they have fallen into disuse in Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia RCMP now operates on the 800 MHz TMR trunk system, but some or all of the VHF system remains in place in 2008). PEI RCMP could not be included as they operated even then on a 400 MHz UHF system. One could wonder however about the Quebec Provincial Police not being represented and perhaps the Maine State Police or the Sheriff Departments from just across the border.
As can be seen on the chart, there are a very few repeaters in New Brunswick with identical frequencies and tones, unlike in Nova Scotia where reuse of frequencies and tones was the norm. In the case of identical repeaters such as Channels 25 and 84, one channel would have sufficed for both, but in the interests of the regionalization of the radio displays, no doubling up is done. This is taken to the extreme with the Nova Scotia channels. The Salem repeater near Amherst is on H Division Channel 6 and therefore was reachable on Channel 43 , but for some reason it was given its own channel display spot at Channel 54. This I surmise was because it was the most used H Division repeater by J Division cars, being just across the border. In fact one has to wonder what sort of event would require any other use of H Division repeaters, but I suppose it was no bother to put them in the radios as they obviously had plenty of room.
In this chart CSQ stands for Carrier Squelch, in which there is no CTCSS tone involved. Where a CTCSS tone is listed please note that in every case it is applied to both transmissions, i.e. to the repeater and from the repeater.
Please let me know of any updates to this chart! My main page on NB RCMP includes newer channels but does not relate them to the radio displays as this chart does.
