In New Brunswick municipal
public works departments exist only in cities, towns, and villages (since 1967
counties no longer exist except for property registry). All cities and most
towns have a radio system to communicate with crews. Smaller municipalities used
their fire department systems. With the increased availability and affordability
of cellular phones, smaller municipalities with only one crew have opted for
that option. There are also three municipal electric power services
