LISTENING TO NOVA SCOTIA:    The main thing to know is that Nova Scotia public service agencies are overwhelmingly on the 800 MHz Nova Scotia Trunked Mobile Radio System, commonly referred to as "the TMR".   Practically all provincial government communications are on it, as well as the ambulance system, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, some federal government agencies, and as well the operations of the Halifax Regional Municipality, plus the Truro Police service.   Some of these communications are digital, and some are encrypted.     Other than that, you will find the other 10 police forces and practically all fire departments outside HRM on VHF.    Aero, Marine and RR communications are on the normal bands associated with those services.   There is practically no use of the VHF low band (30 to 50 MHz), and very little use of 400 MHz by public service agencies.   For site, frequency and talkgroup information regarding the TMR, click here
